Privacy Policy
We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our Web site. These companies may use aggregated information (not including your name, address, email address or telephone number) about your visits to this and other Web sites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, please see: http://www.networkadvertising.org/managing/opt_out.asp

The reality of media today is that the readers are the product, to be sold to the advertisers. What a crappy way to run a website. As a reader you are of paramount importance to me. I will write about topics that I think you would enjoy or find interesting. My goal has always been to provide original and unique content. Otherwise, why write?

Standard journalistic practices apply to me and anyone who should write for this site. Proper disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest and personal ties to subjects is basic journalism.

Advertisements and Cookies

  • Third party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Currently, this website runs advertisements from two networks: RhythmOne and the Amazon Affiliate Program. Purchases made through the Amazon link will return a percentage of the sale to this site. The price of the product will remain unaffected.

Make no mistake, this site is for profit. However, if ads become annoying then it is counter-productive. I will not accept pop-up or pop-under ads.  If the advertisements are overly intrusive or annoying, please let me know and I will fix them immediately. I have no plans to do any sponsored content. If this somehow changes I will publish a notification on the front page. Please understand that I am somewhat new to the web publishing business, at least when dealing with advertisements. The goal is to eventually use AdSense, but it looks like it takes a while to qualify. I will likely change ad providers as the site grows. My YouTube channel is monetized.

Transparency – Transparency is important to me. I will strive to keep the reader informed of any changes and the reason behind those changes.

Corrections and Editing – Any major edit or new information will result in an update notice placed on top of the article. Minor edits such as grammar will not be noted.

Affiliate linksUpdated February 23, 2017 – We are now enrolled in the Amazon affiliate program. Purchases made through our advertisement will give us a percentage of the sale. The sale price is unaffected by this program. Any products we link through this program will be disclosed at the source of the link, as per FTC guidelines.

Developer Relations – I will accept review copies from game developers, and I will disclose it in my reviews when I do. If the review is missing the disclosure it means I paid for the game like everyone else.

Hardware Reviews – If ever offered, I will accept hardware for review. Just like games, the method of acquisition will be disclosed.

Sources – All sources will be vetted. I will protect the identity of any source who wishes to remain anonymous. If a source does wish to remain anonymous, however, he or she must realize that it weakens the story and additional information may be required to prove legitimacy of the story.

Interviews – Only on the rarest of occasions will I accept any restrictions on interviews. If Gabe Newell tells me he’ll do an interview but I can’t ask about his knife collection, I will agree. For anyone else, everything is fair game. Interviews are not public relations. They are only interesting when challenging and when they bring out the person’s true character. You can always refuse to answer an interview question.

Recording – My favorite method of interview is over Skype, largely due to its superior sound quality. I will always ask the interview subject’s permission to record the call. This is done solely for transcription and so that I don’t have to type out responses while talking. I will never record someone without their permission. Audio will not be made public without the interview subject’s permission unless there is a serious conflict.

Off the record – Going off the record is an agreement, not a command. If I agree to go off the record, I will abide by it forever. However, many times I’ve had someone tell me something is off the record and provide information before I agree to keep their statement off the record. It doesn’t work like that. You can’t send me an email out of the blue saying, “Hey Brad, off the record, I killed a guy” and expect me to keep quiet. If I tell you something is off the record it will be. But make sure I agree to it before telling me the juicy part!

Comments – In order to comply with advertising partners, I may have to remove comments which conflict with their policies. This includes comments which attack a person based on sexual orientation or gender identity, race, religion, etc, or even comments that include crude language and/or excessive profanity. I have installed a profanity filter and comments using profane language will go into a queue and await approval before appearing. Please do not try to bypass the filter. I apologize for taking the step, but this website is a one-man operation and time spent moderating comments is less time spent on content.

Patreon – I am still accepting donations on Patreon for feature writing. When – and if – I begin making real money on this website, I will end my Patreon, but I don’t expect that to happen for quite some time. While this site allows me to write more often, I am still looking to do one Patreon feature per month. I will notify my Patreons of the subject of the feature and the expected publishing date as soon as I lock it down.
